There are a great many people working as freelance writers, but do not be deterred. There is always room for more good basic English writers. You don't have to be a Shakespeare or a Tom Clancy. Freelance writing covers many, many different niches and most of the solid, reliable work is in writing short article and reviews. If you have a decent idea of the English language and know how to express yourself, you're already half way there.
When you join the bidding process, you will see that much of the competition is from third world countries and with all due respect to these guys, English is not their first language, and take it from me, there is no substitute for writing in your own native language.
